Nintendo to release demos of Wii U and 3DS games on mobile devices

According to a report in Japanese Newspaper Nikkei, Nintendo is apparently venturing into the mobile-gaming arena, and is set to launch the demos of its Wii U and 3DS games on Android and iOS smartphones.

The Nikkei report about Nintendo's planned foray into the mobile-gaming market hints at a new strategy by Nintendo, especially in the wake of the dismal performance of its Wii U game console.

Despite the fact that gamers as well critics are of the opinion that Nintendo should go ahead with mobile development, and benefit from the wider base of mobile devices to expand its audience dramatically, the company itself is seemingly concerned that a full-fledged effort in mobile gaming may undermine its Wii U or 3DS gaming systems.

About that aspect, the Nikkei report indicates that Nintendo will probably follow a middle path so far its mobile-development efforts are concerned. The company will introduce its games to a wider audience by putting demos and mini-games on mobile devices, while also ensuring that its gaming hardware does not become obsolete --- gamers will be able to play the full versions of the games only on Wii U or 3DS.

Towards that end, Nintendo's global president Satoru Iwata said in a last-week statement: "The spread of smart devices does not spell the end of game consoles. It's not that simple. It doesn't mean that we should put Mario on smartphones."
