According to a story first reported by Hampton-based WAVY television station, a Nintendo DS stocked with pornographic photos was sold by a Walmart store in Hampton, Virginia, on December 23.
The Nintendo DS handheld game console was purchased by a Hampton resident, Tom Mayhew, for his 8-year-old son, as a Christmas gift. The cost at which Mayhew purchased the console was the full new-device price; and, obviously, he expected that the console had never been opened or used.
When Mayhew's son opened the console on the Christmas day, he played around with the camera of the device, clicking pictures of himself and his siblings. However, when he tried to view the pictures from the gallery option, the pictures that showed up were porn photos.
A shocked Mayhew was outraged to find that the porn material had been saved to the picture file of the Nintendo DS. First Mayhew thought that someone at Nintendo had made a mistake or some sick joke was being played on the console's holiday buyers, but later he discovered that the timestamp on the porn photos was December 1, 2013.
With Walmart's stock of the Nintendo DS probably having placed on the Walmart store shelf for months, Mayhew realized that the console he had purchased had already been bought by someone during the Black Friday shopping spree, but was then returned. Walmart apparently restocked the console to its shelves and sold the used device to Mayhew! Walmart has not yet commented on the issue.
